Youth Exchange Project “Young Drivers”

The Youth Exchange Project “Young Drivers” will be held in Lithuania from the 10th to 20th of December of 2017, in the Trakai region. Project is funded by European Union.

The project revolves around the idea of educating the youth about the perils of texting while driving. It is little known that texting while driving is 6x more likely to cause an accident than driving drunk. Text messaging makes a crash up to 23 x times more likely, causes a 400% increase in time spent with eyes off the road and it is the most dangerous distracted driving because it involves all 3 types of distractions: visual, manual and cognitive.

According to the UK Department of Transport, 20% of fatal road accidents already in 2010 in the country had impairment of driving ability or distraction as the likely cause. In 2011 at least 23% of auto collisions involved cell phones. Now this number just grows.

The participants of the project will be young people coming from Lithuania, Croatia, Russia, Bulgaria, Ukraine and Latvia. 20% of participants will come from a background with fewer opportunitys to promote inclusión with this project.
