We contunue to meet new travel bloggers! Today our guest is Karin Leijen: she is 33, loves traveling and lead her blog Globetrotterpost!
Q: What and when inspired you to start traveling?
Karin: Dutch weather. It’s awfull. It rains a lot and it’s cold. I traveled a lot with my mom and dad but my first solo trip was not until I was 29! I needed to figure out what I wanted in live and I needed to do it on my own. But the first reason was simple: I justed wanted to see more of the world than just Europe. It got me hooked.
Q: Tell some funny or most embarrassing travel moments
Karin: We were in Portugal, Porto and ended up having a fun night out with our newfriends. The next day we would rent a scooter to check out the surroundings but we had so much to drink that we ended up spending a day in our cheap and bad hostel with the most awful hangover. Check out the story here.
When I was in Budapest I didn’t pack a swimsuit because I did not know I was going there. I had to buy one and it was hilarious. Check it out here.
Q: What is the biggest cultural shock you have experienced while travelling?
Karin: Toilets that don’t flush. It’s terrible. I had them in Peru, Mexico, Cambodia and Vietnam. The ones you have to get water from a big bowl to flush. I can’t get use to it.
Q: How do you afford to travel – are you rich?!
Karin: No, I travel cheap and work hard for it. I also work in the weekend and I don’t buy things such as expensive clothes.
Q: What is the main learning(s) you got during travelling?
Karin: I learned how to make decisions and how to be patient. People are in such a rush in the western parts of the world.
Q: Which destinations are at the top of your bucket list?
Karin: Lombok, Costa Rica
Q: Can you give some useful advices, tips & tricks for future travelers?
Karin: Don’t be afraid to go off the beaten path and say “yes” more often. Always trust your gut feeling.
