In these past years the demmand of free volunteering programmes has exponentially increased. As a response, multiple volunteering programmes have been developed. Today we will explore the alternatives to traditional volunteering with HelpStay, Worldpackers and WWOOF.
HelpStay team defined themselves as a community of people who like to travel and combine it with a purpose. To them travel is about learning, sharing and growing. That’s why they created HelpStay so everyone can travel with a purpose. They welcome any helper or any host from any country, with no barriers to age or gender. With this platform, it is super easy, safe and affordable to travel and volunteer abroad. HelpStay provide an online trusted, vetted & reviewed community where Helpers can connect with Hosts to find a safe & secure stay, and of course a worthwhile volunteering experience abroad.
HelpStay is contact platform between hosts and helpers. We hold a database of Farms, House Holders, Art Retreat Centres, Eco- villages, Backpacker Hostels, Surf Lodges, Vineyards, Ranches, Schools, Monasteries and Kibbutzim, all who are looking for a few hours of honest help and offering accommodation and food in exchange. They are very selective with their host community; every Host is screened and approved by our team, and the same happens to their Helpers. You can join the HelpStay community as a Helper and travel around the world exchainging your work for accomodation, or you can join the community as a Host and offer your hostel, farm…etc, as a retreat for Helpers.
HelpStay is a great platform for volunteering abroad because it is safe and the community is based on trust. Besides, you won´t have to pay to get a spot in the volunteer programmes, you just have top ay a small membership fee (20 euros per year). And just like that you could be in Thailand teaching english, helping in a hostel in the beautiful beaches of Australia or tending a bar in South Africa!
Worldpackers works pretty similar as HelpStay. Is an online platform that connects host communities such as eco-farms, hostels, schools, House holders…where you can exchange a few hours of your work for accomodation, laundry, a meal and more facilities. It is a great platform if ypu wish to move to another country but you don´t have a flat or a job prior arriving, as well as an amazing experience to learn another language, culture and meet different people all over the world. Little disclaimer here; it is not a job, you will not get paid money for your work, it will pay your accomodation, meal, laundry, internet (maybe a few beers if you wpork on a hostel or bar), so if what you need is cash while travelling this might not be your option. Having said that you can pretty much volunteer anywhere in the world, choosing between joining and eco volunteer programme, or social impact one, or maybe just help at local hostel.
WWOOF is a worldwide movement linking volunteers with organic farmers and growers to promote cultural and educational experiences based on trust and non-monetary exchange, thereby helping to build a sustainable, global community. As a volunteer (or WWOOFer as they call them) you will live alongside your host helping with daily tasks and experiencing life as a farmer.
As a host farm you will open your home to receive visitors from your own country or abroad who want to connect with the land and support the organic movement.
If you want to join as a volunteer, you just have to select the country you´d like to go, join the WWOOF Group you´d like to volunteer in, contact the hosts and that´s ir, enjoy your travel!!
WWOOF is a great experience to those people concern for the environment, that are inte eco, sustainable means of production and that would explore the idea of food sovereignty.
Nowadays there are many options to travel worldwide almost for free, that allow you to share your knowledge, learn new things and truly become a traveler instead of a tourist.
